Erin Mitchell

Erin Mitchell is an Alabama native who received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago with a focus in fiber and material studies, painting, and printmaking. Mitchell is affiliated with AMFM Gallery of Chicago, IL where her most recent work, KINSHIP, debuted. Mitchell creates paintings and photography inspired by the iconography of black womanhood. Works from Mitchell’s series, KINSHIP, can be seen in Season 5 of the musical drama television series, Empire. Mitchell has experience teaching students ranging from K-12 and is trained in Arts Integration as a certified teacher with a Master of Arts in Teaching/Arts Education. Her skills include planning art lessons that master artistic techniques and address cross-disciplinary content for multiple audiences and learning styles.

Program Fees:

  • Workshop fees – 2 classes per day for $300, 3 classes per day for $400, 4 classes per day for $500 plus travel costs; extra classes are $75 each; minimal materials are needed (paper and colored pencils)
  • Residency fees – Week-long: $2,000; month-long: $7,500 All fees are negotiable and the artist is willing to work within limited budgets.

  • Op Art Sculptures: Students learn about the Op Art era and study the work of Victor Vasarely to create 3D sculptures with optical designs inspired by Vasarely’s work.

    • Materials: For workshop/residency projects, material cost is determined by the project.
    • Workshop Cost: Minimum 2 classes per day (25 to 30 students per class) is $300, plus travel and housing, if applicable; additional classes in the same day are $100 each
    • Residency Cost: Week-long: $2,000; month-long: $8,000, additional classes $100 each
